Preset: Real Twilights

Virtual twilight: day-to-dusk real estate photos

Twilight photos are often the hero image of a premium listing — warm window glow, a soft gradient sky, the house lit like it's waiting for you. Shooting one means returning at dusk for a narrow window of good light. The Real Twilights preset converts the daytime exterior you already have.

What the twilight edit does

Real Twilights replaces the sky with a warm sunset gradient of soft purple and orange, adds a warm glow behind the windows, bathes the building and landscaping in soft blue ambient light, and lengthens the shadows the way evening light would. The building structure, landscaping shapes and architectural details are preserved exactly — only the time of day changes.

When a twilight is worth it

Use one twilight as the cover image for listings where curb appeal sells the home: properties with great landscaping or exterior lighting, homes with large front windows, and anything with a pool or outdoor living area. One strong twilight usually beats several — the rest of the gallery should still show the home in clear daylight so buyers know what to expect. Twilights also work well for social posts and print flyers, where a warm, distinctive image stands out.

Choosing the right source photo

Start from a well-exposed, straight-on daytime exterior. Front elevations with visible windows give the best result, because the window glow is what sells the effect. Avoid frames with harsh midday shadows cutting across the façade, and if the sky in your original is blown out, that's fine — it is being replaced anyway. If your daytime frame is dark or contrasty, run HDR first and apply the twilight to the HDR version.

Disclosure and expectations

A virtual twilight is a stylised presentation of the real house, so it's good practice to label it as such where your MLS or local rules ask for it. Keep the property itself unchanged: the edit preserves structure by design, and you shouldn't use follow-up edits to add features — like exterior lighting — that the home doesn't have.

Turnaround and pricing

A twilight conversion takes about 30 seconds and counts as one edit, compared with a separate dusk shoot. You get 10 free edits every month; paid plans are billed per photo — see pricing for current rates. View pricing →

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to shoot at dusk?
No. Real Twilights converts a normal daytime exterior. A straight, well-exposed front elevation with visible windows works best.
Will it add lights that aren't on the house?
The edit adds a warm interior glow behind existing windows and evening ambient light. It is instructed to preserve the building and landscaping exactly rather than invent new fixtures.
Can I use it on backyard or pool photos?
Yes. Any exterior with visible sky works. Pool and patio shots often make strong twilight images.
Should I disclose virtual twilights?
Check your MLS rules. Many agents note "virtual twilight" in the caption so buyers know the photo was taken in daylight.
